The Ancient Apple Stands The Test Of Time

The ancient apple still tastes good. It still satisfies. You can still carry it with you in your pocket or purse saving it to eat later. In 2010, doctors still are recommending you eat at least one a day, more if you can manage it. The apple has endured through diets and nearly every kind of study, continuously amazing nutritionists and scientists globally with its life preserving and healing properties in the fight against obesity, diabetes, cancer and lung disease mentioning just these few.

Its almost an insult and a bit of an oxymoron to suggest that apples are known more for their wonderful taste and sentimental value found in our American apple pie than in the amazing health benefits we derive from eating them raw. But that's the plain truth of the matter. On the other hand how fortunate for us that the 7000 or so varieties of apples around the world are a pleasure to the palate.

There have been more desserts made with apples than any other fruit, beginning with the infamous apple pie. This humble looking fruit has been in more bake offs than any other food contest. Let's see, besides the basic apple pie, there's apple cobbler, apple turnover, apple crumb, apple Betty, apple tart and no kidding the list really does go on. To that list add all the apple desserts from around the world. So yes we have a love affair with apples and it works to our benefit when you add the health benefits to the picture.

Studies have consistently shown that including apples in your diet regularly contributes to your overall health and is a strong protection against many diseases. If you like to walk or run, apples are a good insurance policy that will help keep those bones you depend on for walking and running strong.  For those seeking cosmetic or beauty benefits, take the humble apple seriously for keeping your skin smooth, moist and supple. Concerned about your weight? Again the apple is excellent as an ally to effective weight management.

If you or a family member have asthma, add apples and apple juice to the diet. It's been shown to lessen that awful wheezing that can plague you unexpectedly during stressful situations. Is the versatile apple a cure all.  Probably not, but it certainly could be a strong health resource to anyone seeking better health without spending a fortune.

Go ahead, enjoy that award winning Apple Betty. But remember to eat lots of apples raw too and enjoy  all of its versatality.
